Myths about saving energy at home

In all areas of life it is the same: the truth about a subject matter mixed with false beliefs that many already take as unquestionable.

This occurs in a special way as far as energy saving household concerns, and it is not unusual to remember some of the phrases, we have heard by active and passive in face of our fathers, grandparents and friends and even we have come to repeat.

If you want to dispel some common myths around this issue has taken note of what we tell you and starts doing things with knowledge.

The following are some of the false ideas that help save at home:

1. Hand wash uses less fuel than the dishwasher. The dishwasher will not only allow us to have clean dishes but also helps you save up to 30 liters per day and consume 10% less energy.

2. The standby consumes very little power. Appliances on stand by and consuming itself, in fact, more than we might think, the stand by assumes an expense of 231 kWh per year or which is the same 5% of household consumption.

3. The heat loss from windows is residual. The fact that it is a very small area compared to the total size of home does not mean that the loss is less important, since according to the studies between 25% and 30% of the consumed heating serves to cover precisely these losses. The solution is double glazing which reduces up to 50% loss.

4. Keep lit fluorescent is better to turn them on and off. One of the most common myths and of course, is also false. The over-representing the fluorescent light is just a split second and not at all cost money than leaving it always on (although it will be spent before).

5. The electric stove uses less. On the contrary, because according to some experts or glass ceramic electric stoves consume four times more than gas.
